“I Support Fake News”

This participatory action solicited volunteers to congregate on Main Street in Downtown Houston during the busy lunchtime hour. The action engaged urban public space through performance and urged passers by to more critically consider what constitutes “fake news.”

Volunteers stood on sidewalks, sat on benches, and waited for public transportation while reading mainstream newspapers with “I Support Fake News” stickers on the front page. Volunteers also wore “I Support Fake News” buttons. Volunteers included employees from professional service firms in downtown along with local artists and professors.

The work  comments on how “fake news” is destabilizing public space.
