Yes, I am celebrating my birthday at a wine bar but, even if it’s rare, I will not be toasting year “35” with a sip of snake wine. This drink found in China, Vietnam and throughout Southeast Asia promotes health, vitality and virility. The wine is created by steeping the snake (like the cobras above) in rice or grain alcohol which, thereby, “kills” the poison.
As if you had to ask — this is taken as a shot and eating the flesh of the snake is optional. Before you judge – how many of you have drank something with a worm in it and how many of you ate black eyed peas at New Years?
