I <heart> Lawndale Art Center and not just because I was included in The Big Show last year. Truly, Lawndale does some pretty cool events and I think their annual Dia de los Muertos show is the best. For the past 20+ years, Lawndale has put out a call out to any and all artists in the Houston area to come and pick up a retablo tin and create something with it. This non-juried show is then opened up in the world in part to give artists the opportunity to show their work but also to educate the community about Mexican art traditions.
Come see me at the gala on Friday night to see if I can get my hair into Frida Kahlo braids. ($45 for non-members, $35 for members).
Or see the exhibit during regular hours from now until November 5th.
