After a disappointing purchase of “Surprise” in 2006, I am excited to report that Paul Simon’s latest album “So Beautiful or So What” is wonderful. Listening to it, I forget that he will be 70 years old this fall. (Of course I am sure that some engineering helped with this, as well). PS will always have a special place in my heart because I used to listen to my Mom and Dad’s tape of Simon and Garfunkel Live in Central Park growing up. In fact, a road trip was not complete without it. Also, a very talented musician friend of mine – Bernie Minoso – played with PS during his “Songs from the Capeman” years. Here is a link to BM performing at Nuyorican Poets Cafe which used to be me and my friend DC’s regular NYC East Village hang back in the day. Click here to see him playing with Ray Vega.
As we move into our work week, here is a rehearsal clip from “The Afterlife” a track from the new album. I especially like this one because its recurring line – you got to fill out a form first and then you wait in the line . It reminds me of the schlep into work on Monday mornings.

You can call meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Al, call me Al.
Please, I know that the old S&G stuff is so much better, but when I see that cute little face (above) I think of he and Chevy Chase dancing around acting goofy.
I will listen to the new stuff right now…
I like this post!
I havent heard the album yet but I’m hoping he has some of the great percussion beats PS is known for.
